Each year, thanks to generous donors and corporate partners, Mercy Health Foundation awards scholarships to various Mercy Health staff to help further their studies and skills. Selected amongst a panel of senior leaders at Mercy Health, this year we had nine successful recipients.

We were able to celebrate our wonderful group of donors, partners and recipients at a scholarship event held at The InterContinental Hotel in March.

In 2023 we were able to add an additional five new scholarship offerings. Through our partnership with Bank First, we granted four new scholarships. Generous and kind donors, John and Caitlin Doherty, created the Maree Doherty Bursary in honour of their wife and mother.

“We’re proud investors in the future of healthcare, supporting those who make a difference every day,” Adrian Wilson, Head of Community Partnerships, Bank First, says.

Nishita Shah, Endorsed Enrolled Nurse at Mercy Place Fernhill in Sandringham, received one of the Bank First scholarships. Nishita is also celebrating 10 years at Mercy Health and adores her job, colleagues and residents at Mercy Place Fernhill.

“This scholarship is a boost to keep me thriving for all of my hard work,” Nishita says.

She intends to use the scholarship to fund her current studies in a Bachelor of Nursing and a Diploma in Leadership and Management.

Congratulations to all our deserving recipients. We are so pleased these scholarships will help fund further learning as they continue to be valued members of our Mercy Health community.

Of course, these scholarships wouldn’t be possible without our generous donors and partners. It is through their continued generosity and philanthropic leadership that we can provide these opportunities to the exceptional Mercy Health workforce. Thank you!

A mother’s love lives on

John speaks fondly of the year 1990 – the year he became a magistrate; the year he became a father for the first time, and it was the year when his beloved Collingwood Magpies won the inaugural AFL Grand Final.   Without the support of his wife, Maree, John says he might not have had the...
