PJ for Prems another great success

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2022 PJ for Prems pyjama dress-up day across Victoria – your combined efforts helped us raise an incredible $3,715!

PJ for Prems is held annually by Mercy Health Foundation on World Prematurity Day – 17 November – and raises vital funds to support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Special Care Nursery (SCN) at both Werribee Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospital for Women in Heidelberg.

Children in participating childcare centres wear their pyjamas for the day, or the whole week, with their families making a gold coin donation to Mercy Health Foundation.

With the money raised this year, the NICU and SCN purchased two sleep apnoea machines, valued at $2,000 each.

Mercy Hospital for Women NICU staff

A premature baby needs every bit of strength they have to grow, put on weight and develop better lung capacity. They need to conserve their energy for growing stronger, rather than fighting for air.

Sleep apnoea machines accurately monitor a baby’s breathing, sound the alarm if a baby stops breathing or if their heart rate is too low, and keep babies breathing. Parents also have peace of mind knowing their precious newborn will receive the help they need if they are struggling to breathe.

This is all possible thanks to the 27 centres and hundreds of families who participated in the 2022 PJ for Prems day!

Thank you for giving sick and premature babies the best possible start to life, and for supporting the incredible work the NICU and SCN staff do each and every day.

We hope you will join us again this year to make the 2023 PJ for Prems Day bigger and better than ever!
